CBC General Meeting Minutes
September 20, 2004
1 Attendance
The meeting was held September 20,
2004 at the Downtown YMCA. Introductions were made and welcome was
extended to all old and new members in attendance.
2 Business
General
The meeting was called to order.
Introductions were made, as there were several new members present. Minutes for
the August 2004 meeting were reviewed and approved. There was no September Board
Meeting. There was no old business to discuss.
Tribute to Ebb Donahoo
Daisy Blanton gave a brief tribute to
Ebb Donahoo, long time CBC member and icon of the Bicycling Community. All
present agreed to a contribution by CBC once details and funeral arrangements
are known.
Special Events
An Events report was given regarding
the Sequatchie Valley Century. All members were encouraged to ride or
volunteer.
A report was given on the recent Ride
Against Cancer that took place last month. Approximately 350 riders
participated, and over $16,500 was raised for Cancer research. John Carr
extended appreciation for the strong support offered by CBC members for this
event.
An upcoming “no frills” ride to help
raise funds for the Cohutta Volunteer Fire Department was announced, and
participation was encouraged.
It was announced that the recent
River Gorge Race was well attended, and well supported by CBC. Several local
riders participated and made a good show for the Bicycling Community.
Trips for Kids
Mike Walsh gave a report on the
recent CBC/SORBA Trips for Kids. Several youngsters were given the opportunity
to have a positive biking experience under the tutelage of CBC and SORBA
volunteers. Future events are in the works.
SORBA workday
A SORBA Trail workday will be held
Saturday, September 25. Participation was encouraged. Chattanooga Parks and
Recreation Department will hold a hand-cycling ride for handicapped riders at
the Chickamauga Battlefield September 25, 2004. Volunteers are welcome.
Bylaws Committee Report
George Perry gave a report on the
Bylaws Committee. The attorney working on incorporation has provided a package
including a draft charter and minor changes to the bylaws, requesting additional
information, mostly financial. The package has been copied and provided to the
Board and to the Bylaws committee.
New Jersey Report
A report on the progress of The New
Jersey Project was given. All members present agreed the Board may make the
decision as to which vendor to use. Membership also agreed to the purchase of
16 “old style” jerseys to be available for those interested.
Bike to Work Report
A Bike to Work update was given.
Events are planned for October 1, 2004. Further information will be available
on the website and through public service announcements.
Nominating Committee
Bill Johnson and Lois Newton agreed
to head the Nominating Committee for 2005 officers. Others interested in
participating are welcome.
Christmas Party
Ideas for the Christmas Party were
discussed. Options will be explored.
With no further business, the meeting
was adjourned.
